Rotate PDF

Fix sideways or upside-down pages for good. Turn every page of a PDF, or only the pages you choose, by 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise or 180°, and download the corrected file. It is processed in your browser and never uploaded.

How Rotate PDF works

A PDF page carries a rotation property, 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees, that tells every viewer how to turn the page when displaying and printing it. The tool adds the angle you choose to that property for the pages you select, and writes the file again. The content of the page is not touched, so there is no loss of quality and text stays selectable.

The angle is added to the current rotation, so turning a page that is already rotated 90° by another 90° gives 180°, and the result always stays within 0 to 270. The page shows the new orientation in every viewer, not only in the one you used to look at it.

Rotation is the one edit that leaves the rest of the file as it is: nothing is copied into a new document, so bookmarks, form data and other document-level features are kept.

How to use it

  1. Select a PDF file, or drop it on the area at the top of the tool.
  2. Choose the angle: 90° clockwise, 90° counter-clockwise or 180°.
  3. Choose All pages, or Only the pages I choose and type them, for example 2, 4-6.
  4. Choose Rotate PDF and download the result. Choose Change the options to turn it further.

Example

A page’s rotation after turning it, whatever it was before. The same code runs on your file.

Limits and good to know

  • The PDF can be up to 200 MB. The whole document is held in your device’s memory while it works.
  • Password-protected PDFs and PDFs with editing restrictions cannot be processed. Remove the protection first, which requires the password.
  • Only the page rotation changes. A page whose content is itself drawn sideways, with no rotation property, is turned like any other, and appears upright once rotated.

Frequently asked questions

Does rotating reduce the quality of my pages?

No. The pages are not redrawn or recompressed. Only the rotation value of each page is changed, so text, images and vector graphics are exactly as they were.

Can I rotate only some pages?

Yes. Choose Only the pages I choose and type them as a list, for example 2, 4-6, or 8- for page 8 to the end. A page that does not exist is reported before anything runs. The other pages are left as they are.

Will the rotation be kept in every PDF viewer?

Yes. The rotation is saved inside the file as a property of each page, which every PDF viewer and printer honours. It is different from turning the view in a viewer, which is lost when you close the file.

A scanned page is upside down. Which angle fixes it?

Rotate it 180°. If it is lying on its side, rotate 90° clockwise when the top of the page points to the left, and 90° counter-clockwise when the top points to the right. If you are unsure, try one and use Change the options to turn again.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The document is opened and edited by your own browser and nothing is sent anywhere. You can verify it in your browser’s developer tools: the Network tab shows no upload while you rotate.
