PDF Page Counter
Find out how many pages a PDF has, or add up the pages of a whole folder of PDFs. Add the files and read the count for each one and the total. Nothing is uploaded: the files are read by your own browser.

PDF only. Up to 200 files, 200 MB each.
Your files stay in this browser tab. Nothing is uploaded, saved or logged.
How PDF Page Counter works
Each file is opened in a background process of your browser and its page tree is read, which is the list of pages the PDF itself declares. It is the same number a PDF viewer reports, and it does not depend on the size of the file: a 40-page scan and a 40-page text document both give 40.
Files are read one after the other, so adding a large selection never freezes the page. The total updates as each file finishes, and the whole list can be copied as plain text, one line per file, ready to paste into a quote, a spreadsheet or an email.
A file that cannot be read is left out of the count and reported by name with the reason, instead of being counted as zero pages. That covers a damaged file, a text file renamed to .pdf and a PDF protected by a password.
How to use it
- Select PDF files, or drop them on the area at the top of the tool. You can keep adding files.
- Wait a moment for each file to be read. Its page count appears on its line.
- Read the total at the top of the list, or choose Copy the list to paste the counts elsewhere.
- Remove a file to take it out of the total, or choose Clear all to start again.
Example
| File | Pages |
|---|---|
| report.pdf | 12 pages |
| annex.pdf | 4 pages |
| invoice.pdf | 1 page |
| Total | 17 pages in 3 files |
Limits and good to know
- Up to 200 files at a time, and 200 MB per file.
- Password-protected PDFs cannot be read, so they are not counted. Remove the protection first, which requires the password.
- The count is the number of pages the file declares. A few damaged or unusual files declare a wrong number, and a viewer is then the only way to check.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to count its pages?
No. The file is opened by your own browser and nothing is sent anywhere. You can check it in your browser’s developer tools: the Network tab shows no upload while you count. Removing a file or closing the tab releases it from memory.
Why does my PDF viewer show a different number?
Some documents label their pages with numbers that do not start at 1, for example roman numerals for a preface followed by 1, 2, 3 for the body. A viewer may show that label, while this tool counts every physical page of the file, which is the number that matters for printing and for page limits.
Can I count several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add as many as the limit allows and each one gets its own count, with the grand total at the top. The list can be copied as text with one line per file, which is useful for a quote or a report.
Does it work with scanned documents?
Yes. A scan is a PDF whose pages contain pictures, and the page count does not depend on what the pages contain. The tool counts pages, not words.
Why was one of my files not counted?
The message under the drop zone names the file and the reason. The usual ones are a file that is not really a PDF, a PDF that is damaged or cut short, an empty file, a file over the size limit, and a PDF that is protected with a password or restrictions.
